All of our committees would love to have you as a volunteer whether there is a "Vacancy" listed or not.

After School Program Coordinator- Rheanna Bernard

The PTA offers a variety of after school activities to choose from. Many more are on the way for next year!

Art Framing -  Rheanna Bernard

NSES has a tradition of framing student art work that has been selected by the art teacher(s).  The framed artwork is displayed in the hall way throughout the year, and families are offered the chance to purchase their children's framed art.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Help frame art work during art framing nights. We’ll show you how!

  • Remove artwork from frames as needed at the end of the display period.

Audit - Andrew Harter

Committee of three/four to review financials

Beautification - Tracy Stuba  

Volunteers are needed to:

 *Purchase (PTA will reimburse you) and plant flowers for the pots outside the doors and in front of the school sign.  

 *Be available to maintain (water and weed) plants on a regular basis

 *Work with SCA leaders to organize a spring clean up day.  

 *Work with the school administration to determine landscaping improvements that are needed.

Bingo -  VACANT

Volunteers needed to coordinate activities, solicit prizes, run the event, and sell tickets on site.

Box Tops for Education - VACANT

Volunteers coordinate collection and submission of the Box Tops for Education. This program raises $900-$1,000 for the school each year.


Special Committee needed every five years to review (completed 2016/2017 school year)

Civic Association Liaison - Ken Balbuena

Attends Civic Association meetings and serves as the conduit of information between the PTA and the NSCA.

Communications -  Rheanna Bernard, Kristy Balbuena, Michele Maurer

Maintain the NSES PTA's e-mail list, social media, calendar, and website, as well as the school directory.

Global Plus (Comprehensive Foreign Language After School Program) - Rheanna Bernard

After-school world language enrichment program for elementary school children. Through stories, games, activities, and music, children experience a world language and its culture.   Visit http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/OACE/flex.htm for more information.

Football Tailgating - VACANT

Coordinates the tailgate party at NSES prior to the annual “NSES Night” at the Annandale High School Football Game.

Giant Script/Giant A+ Bonus Bucks/Giant Cards - VACANT

Buy Giant Grocery Cards from the NSES PTA.

This program raises funds for the school each year.

GRACE ARTS Coordinator - Lisa Greene Milman

This is a program established by Greater Reston Arts Center to increase children's art experiences in school.  

Volunteers needed:

   *    To present or help other parents present information on artists, techniques, and art history to classes.

   *    Prepare materials for art projects.

   *    Assist during presentations by passing out materials and encouraging students as they work on art projects.

You do not have to be an artist to help with GRACE Arts.  All materials, information, project ideas, etc. are provided for you and shared at a GRACE arts information meeting.  This committee offers opportunities for all types of volunteers, from those who like to up in front of the class to those who prefer to stay behind the scenes.

Holmes Middle School Liaison - VACANT

Serves as the conduit of information between the PTA and the Holmes Middle School.  If you can volunteer for this, please contact the PTA President.

Library - Andrea Dixon

This committee will assist the school librarian, Maura Madigan.  Volunteers may be asked to:

 *help shelf books when you are available.

 *help with the school book fair.  

Membership - Liz Rogers

Coordinates outreach to parents and staff for annual PTA membership renewal and dues collection.

Odyssey of the Mind - VACANT

Volunteer(s) organize and supervise volunteer teams for the Odyssey of the Mind Program, an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students.  Visit www.odysseyofthemind.com for more information.  If you can volunteer for this, please contact the PTA President.

Reflections - Erin Henderson

The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students.  The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education.  

Read-a-Thon - Rheanna Bernard

Organize and supervise an annual Read-a-Thon fundraiser for the school.

Restaurant Night -   Michelle Harter

Organize and set up fundraising events at local restaurants.

Room Parent Coordinator - Melinda van Heerden

One or two room parents are solicited for each classroom. A list of Room Parent Responsibilities is available:

Spirit Wear Sales - Emely Simone

Organize and sell school spirit wear.  

Volunteers needed to sell merchandise during school events.

Teacher Workday Lunches- VACANT

Organizes lunches for the teachers and staff of NSES on Teacher/Staff Workdays and during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Volunteers needed to:

 *Send home flyers to families to request money or food dishes for lunch

 *Create flyer to invite teacher/staff to luncheon and post flyer on office and teacher lunchroom doors

 *Organize set-up, decorations, and clean-up

 *Plan a menu and purchase food as necessary

 *Purchase gift cards and/or items that can be raffled off to staff during the lunch

 *Purchase decorations

Yearbook - VACANT

With the assistance of staff, get pictures, plan the layout, meet deadlines, etc. for the annual school yearbook.
