Room Parents

A room parent (also known as a class parent) is a vital role that facilitates communication between the teacher, parents and the PTA and supports the needs of the teacher and classroom as needed. It is important to remember that every NSES classroom community and culture is different. The expectations for each class vary slightly but for the most part you’ll serve as a liaison and carry out tasks such as:

  • Commit to 2-4 hours per week

  • Organize class events and parties, usually around a specific occasion, topic or theme.

  • Collect money from parents and organize teacher gifts at holidays and during teacher appreciation week

  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for classroom support, school events, and field trips

  • Send out reminders about events, activities, field trips, etc.

  • Attend parent group meetings.

  • Attend monthly PTA meetings

  • Keep an up-to-date list of contact information for all parents

Final review and selections are based on availability. Final selections will be done by raffle and will be announced before September 23, 2022. All applicants will be notified directly by the PTA of the progress and selections. If you are selected for your child's class and would like to know your child's progress, please schedule a separate 1:1 time before or after school to discuss, not during volunteer hours.
